Importance of Replacing Timing Belts Periodically

Replacing timing belts periodically is very important even though car manufacturers don’t usually specify a replacement interval for belts. But for the sake of preventative maitenance, many experts recommend periodic replacement of V-belts or serpentine belts.

When you open up the timing belt cover, the timing belt may usually appear to be in good condition. Bear in mind, however, that the timing belt's job is to keep moving parts, primarily valves and pistons, in time with one another. If it is not replaced in a timely manner, it will eventually break, leaving you stranded or causingengine damage that is very expensive to repair.

Replacing timing belts periodically can go a long way towards lessening the risk of an engine breakdown caused by belt malfunction. For your convenience, better change your belt when necessary and maintain it in ood condition to prevent your belt from failing unexpectedly. The timing belt should be replaced every 60,000 miles. It is also recommended to change the water pump and belt tensioner at the same time. To prolong the life of your belt, make sure that it's always properly tensioned when installed. The right belt tension should be maintained throughout its service life.
