Clutch Replacement Tips

Replacing your clutch is an easy task if you have have the necessary tools and basic technical know-how. If you're familiar with engine mechanics and have an engine lift, the clutch replacement process would only take about 6-7 hours to finish. You can replace the clutch by yourself by following these simple steps:

• Check if the source of your problem is really the clutch. Carefully read the instructions in your manual for replacing your clutch.
• For easy removal, prepare the transaxle and unhook the positive battery cable, the clutch cable or hydraulic slave cylinder. Eliminate all things that can possibly distract you when working with exhaust pipes and the speedometer.
• Work in a quiet place where you can work properly. Park your vehicle in a safe position before jacking up the front end. Stabilize the engine with a jack under the oil pan and get rid of the transaxle.
• Remove the bolts that surround the flywheel bell housing to separate the motor from the transaxle. Push the transaxle away from the engine until the input shift clears the pressure plate.
• Then, disengage the bolts surrounding the plate and take the clutch disk out. If applicable, remove the machine and reinstall the flywheel.
• When installing the new clutch, take note that it must be perfectly aligned with a pilot tool, so the transmission input shaft will slip into place.
